Return to School?

Exclusion from School Due to Illness

A student should be excluded from school with any of the following conditions:

COVID-19 symptoms are on the Home page, as well as the MDH Decision Tree.

Return to school after illness 24 hour after symptoms improved, vomiting stops, or fever is normal (without medication).

Fever of 100 degrees or more: the student needs to stay home for 24 after the temperature returns to normal without the help of medication.
Vomiting and diarrhea: the student needs to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
Any undiagnosed rash: the student needs to see a physician before returning to school.
Chicken Pox: the student may return to school after the last poxes have scabbed over, usually 7-10 days
Any uncontrolled cough
Influenza: the student may return when able, anywhere from 2-7 days.
Impetigo: the student may return to school 24 hours after treatment.
Lice: the student may return after treatment.
Pink Eye: the student may return after treatment begins if there is no pus-like drainage.
Ringworm: the student may return 24 hours after treatment begins.
Scabies: the student may return 24 hours after treatment begins.
Strep Throat: the student may return 12 hours after antibiotic is started.
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease: the student may return 24 hours after temperature returns to normal.
