SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION

WHO REQUIRES SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION?

Special transportation is provided for those students with needs relating to their disability.  Occasionally, the location of a program requires special or alternate transportation for general education students.

WHAT IS THE BUS DRIVER RESPONSIBLE FOR?

School bus drivers are specially trained.  Hayfield Schools employ bus companies to provide transportation services.  The bus drivers are responsible for driving safely.

WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES AS A PARENT?

Your child should be ready for the bus at pick-up time.  If your child is ill or will not be riding the bus that day, call the bus company at least one hour before pick-up time.  If you move, or if daycare arrangements change, please notify the bus company and the school well ahead of time. If a change in a child’s route is required, it may take up to three days to arrange the new route. If your child becomes ill during the day or is suspended, you are responsible for transporting your child home.

For Early Childhood (“Help Me Grow” and KAP) students, a parent or adult must bring or pick up the child to/from the van and buckle/unbuckle the child. Once the older children can do these themselves, the driver will oversee to make sure the child is buckled properly.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF MY CHILD?

Be on time.  Remain seated.  Speak quietly.  Listen to the driver.  Comply with safety requests and directives.  No swearing, fighting, or yelling.

HOW ARE PROBLEMS HANDLED?

The bus driver will handle simple problems as outlined in the policy.  If misbehavior is more severe, the driver will give a written report to the building principal.  The principal will enforce disciplinary action to ensure safe riding behaviors.

SAFETY IS OUR FIRST CONCERN.

It is important for your child to follow these expectations.  Disciplinary action will occur for misbehavior.

WHAT IF MY CHILD OVERSLEEPS OR MISSES THE BUS?

Because of other routes and safety issues involved, the bus cannot come back to pick up your child.  Transport your child to school as soon as possible.

WHAT IF DAYCARE CHANGES FOR THE DAY?

Unless daycare drop-offs are a part of the transportation routine, one day changes will not be made.  As the parent, you are responsible for any temporary transportation changes.  Any permanent changes should be shared with the transportation company and the school where your child attends.
